I love this CD Deck. I was skeptical at first as I was buying this to complete a pair of decks for myself and the other deck I have is a CDJ-2000 Nexus. I was worried that for some reason there would be some difficulty in syncing the two decks and or using with another deck that was not of the same kind but to my surprise everything works flawlessly and I am totally satisfied!

Great product and easy on the budget. I am an amateur DJ and have been doing private parties for about 5 yrs with a PC DJ Setup. I moved up one step from a Denon DJ MIDI controller after a lot of thinking and reviewing for almost 2 yrs! Almost bought the XDJ 1000 but it didn’t have FLAC compatibility. So I waited and the XDJ 1000 MK2 fit the bill. There is only a small difference between this machine and the CDJ Nexus 2K NSX 2. This can play HD audio upto 24K and 48kHz which covers a decent range. The CDJ Nexus covers upto 96kHz but not worth the price. I had to learn a lot to get my bearings on the XDJ as I was made lazy by the features of PC DJ Software. It took me about 3 months to finally get my head around it and I had to set all the cue points in Rekordbox.

Rekordbox is a pain to use. Connectivity can be glitchy and you need to have a small network switch to connect all of the players and the PC together. This took some time since there isn’t enough details about this in the manual. I had to watch a few videos to get the players to sync up. The software needs a fast PC. It tends to hog on memory and is a drain on the processing speed. It can be complex if you use one PC to prepare the music and another Laptop for performance. Moving large amount of files between machines take time. There is no straight forward way to do it.

I would recommend getting two Hard drives (one as a backup) and you can even share the songs over the network with the other player with one hard drive but then, loading is slower. For safety I use a laptop and 2 hard drives just in case.

The on screen buttons are very responsive. SLIP mode works well and you hardly feel a delay unlike in PC controllers. It also has a sync button but it gets messy to use. I now like the feel of having to match the beats on the screens rather than use the SYNC.
I use it with a DJM 750 mixer which is fine but the DJM 750 MK2 seems a lot more suited to these players – IF you use the effects. Otherwise even a DJM 250 should suffice in case you are on a tight budget. But after having moved from PC DJing I love using the XDJ’s a lot more than I did when using the Denon MC 6000. Beat matching is aided by a guide at the top of the screen which makes it a lot easier to keep the beats in Sync. Like in most software, rekordbox doesnt always get the grid right and a lot of adjusting is required before performing to get the beats aligned.

Also consider the XDJ-700 which has the same features with a lower form factor for it to be more portable or even the XDJ RX which is an all in one player but both machines don’t have FLAC support. If you can manager without FLAC files I would recommend the XDJ. However having said that playing FLAC files gives a whole new feel to the sound quality.

    – Cheaper than CDJ 2K nexus
    – Plays HD audio
    – All the buttons are very responsive
    – Slight differences from the CDJ 2K – nothing overly missing here. Not worth paying USD 1000 more for it.
    – Display and search functions are very good but its advisable to keep the laptop handy as it makes it easier to search when you are in a hurry.
    – You can create play lists that will help organise the music and that sorts out most issues in searching

-Juggling between screens for looping and waveform takes getting used to. The cue point screen has to be switched when you want to use cue points.
    – Rekordbox is not as good as the other DJ software like Traktor. Its BPM analysis has a lot of issues when you use some music types. I had to use another software to analyse it accurately. Overall you will have to migrate all of your cue points manually (there is software available) to this if you are migrating from PC DJ’ing.
    – You can play songs without analysing but there is only a limited amount of functionality. So its not practical.
    – You have to be careful about using the Laptop as the play will go into an emergency loop of your network cables get loose.

Great replacement instead of the cdj2000nx2 (which is like a grand more) good features and gets you confortable with the players industry standard jog wheel. I bought 2 of these and used djm900nxs2… great combo.

Still no dvs support for traktor though…
